Tool & Die Designer

Position Description

Pay Range: $32.50 - $42.50 (DOE)

Reports to: Design Supervisor

Department: Tooling Design

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tool & Die Designer will coordinate the repair, rebuild, improvement, and ground up design for Dies and Tooling. This position will be responsible for designs, details, and the creation of new dies, and will also research new technologies and innovations in order to develop new products and improve on existing products as well as reduce costs. The Tool and Die Designer will be expected to communicate with all levels of the plant in an effective and respectful manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design stamping tools, fixtures press equipment, and machining layouts for the tool room using our current Cad software
  • Responsible for quoting new tools and projects
  • Provide designs that are manufacturable, accurate, meet project scope, and will work with departments in the plant to ensure work conveys correct information and is error-free
  • Select or recommend use of layouts, graphics, drawings, or illustrations to amplify publication objectives
  • Use our current 3D Cad software to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings, images, and other forms of communication
  • Must follow established design guidelines and standards
  • Follow the direction of the lead designer in the area of tool design
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects at one time
  • Must be able to provide the customer with bi-weekly updates and timelines with Gantt charts

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience as a Tool Designer
  • Excellent working knowledge of SolidWorks, LogoPress knowledge is desired
  • Strong background in progressive die design, metal working materials, mechanics, and heat treating
  • Required experience in a metal stamping environment (i.e. knowledge of presses and different dies used in metal stamping such as progressive, draw, miscellaneous, etc.)
  • Required experience and familiarity with CNC machine tools and parts making

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting or related field
  • Experience with Solid Works and Auto Cad
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Understanding of different materials and production methods
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications

Die Design Examples will be required for discussion during the interview.
